Dear visitor,

The predecessor of the Faculty of Horticulture and Rural Development of John von Neumann University (until 30 June 2016 the Faculty of Horticulture of Kecskemét College) was the Community School of Economics, founded in 1872, which operated until 1895. Between 1895 and 1928, economic education was continued under the name "Agricultural Vocational School". As a result of the phylloxera epidemic in Hungary, vines were planted on large areas of sand. This led to the establishment of the "Vineyardist Training" in, which became the Vinery and Wine School in 1921. The school was closed down in 1959.

In 1936, the Upper Agricultural College was founded at the Community College of Farmers, which subsequently continued its activities in the town under various names and in various locations. It was renamed Agricultural Secondary School in 1938, Agricultural High School in 1949 and Agricultural Technical School in 1950.

The Agricultural Technical School was transferred to Kiskunfélegyháza, while the Horticultural Technical School moved to Ceglédi út 2. The Higher Technical School opened in 1960 as a 2-year higher horticultural institution based on the baccalaureate. From 1967, it continued to operate as the Horticulture Faculty of the Higher Agricultural College, with three branches (fruit growing, viticulture and viticulture, vegetable growing).

The Government decided to establish the Faculty of Horticulture of the University of Horticulture in 1970, when the Kecskemét Higher Agricultural College was reorganised. Since 1971, the institution has been known as the Horticultural University, and since its renaming (1986) as the Horticultural College of the University of Horticulture and Food Industry.

Based on the decision of the Hungarian Parliament, our Faculty worked as the Faculty of Horticulture of Kecskemét College from 1 January 2000 to 30 June 2016.Since 1 July 2016, it has been called the Faculty of Horticulture and Rural Development of John von Neumann University.

As of February 2021, the right to use the Hirös Folk Community Riding School was granted to the Training Farm of the Faculty of Horticulture and Rural Development, which will enable Kecskemét to become a centre for equestrian education and the transmission of equestrian traditions.
